Cryostasis Sleep of Reason Demo

Finding out that this demo had been made available. I headed over to NVIDIA to check it out.  I downloaded the PhysX Patch and then the demo.  The demo is fun, a little difficult at first to get the hang of.  But fun.   The idea is that you are somewhere SO COLD that if you don't stay near a heat source you will die in around 3-5 minutes.  The game makes you go around this frozen ship turning these heat sources on and killing these various baddies also appearing to go back in time and save the people trapped there from meeting their death.  The game is basically a FPS with VERY light puzzle elements.  Which is fun and all.

But where Cryostatis shines is the graphics.  On my machine the game plays fluidly after it loads up for the first time and then there are SO many effects going on it's amazing.  There is water flowing, ice melting, water flowing off of ice melt, snow blowing, ice forming.  It's amazing stuff and probably why they needed the PhysX patch.

Certainly the game is moody, dark, and lonely.  Much like Bioshock in feel.  But the shooting a little clunky and you move a little too slowly through to really get psyched about what will happen next.  Judging by the demo it's probably a very good game.  But in a world where it seems like a new PC shooter comes out every month it's hard to feel that this one is special.  Maybe a little story with the demo would have helped.  Maybe not...  But this game really isn't being advertised too much and it is even hard to find anyway to get the game unless you follow the download link from IGN to Direct 2 Drive.  The game will set you back about $30.  Probably will wait a while, I'm a little busy now.  But you go download the demo.  As long as you have a descent rig you should be fine.
